Six Reasons and Ways To Celebrate World Bipolar Day With SADAG #BipolarStrong

Sunday, 24th March 2024

1. World Bipolar Day

This year, as we commemorate World Bipolar Day on Saturday, 30 March 2024, we find ourselves reflecting not only on the challenges faced by individuals with Bipolar Disorder but also on the incredible strength and resilience they demonstrate each day. We are reminded of the profound significance of World Bipolar Day, an occasion that not only raises awareness but also fosters understanding and support for those living with Bipolar Disorder worldwide.

"In recent years, it’s become far more fashionable to speak about the importance of caring for your Mental Health, but that doesn’t mean that the stigma around it has gone away. People are often surprised when I tell them I have Bipolar Disorder. They will say things such as, 'Oh wow! You seem so normal!’ I never know whether to feel complimented or insulted. My Mental Illness is never going to go away, it is a part of my future, but it is a future that I can manage and handle as a functional and capable person,” says SADAG Bipolar Support Group Member, Ally.

2. #BipolarStrong

In conjunction with World Bipolar Day, the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is proud to stand alongside the global community in celebrating the theme of #BipolarStrong. This powerful hashtag summarises the unwavering determination and courage shown by individuals navigating the complexities of Bipolar Disorder. It serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us all that strength can be found even amid adversity. Being “Bipolar Strong” also means having the strength of empathy. Specifically, empathy for the people who need it the most. Break the stigma by showing others that having Bipolar Disorder is not something to be ashamed of!

Share your story this World Bipolar Day, write a post, share a supportive message, or record a short video, don't forget to tag SADAG (@theSADAG) and use the #BipolarStrong!
