Learning signs & symptoms, how to get help and self-care tools of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Facebook Friday Online chat 4th October 1pm &7pm
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a Mental Health disorder that affects people of all ages in all walks of life, and occurs when a person gets caught in a cycle of obsessions and compulsions. Individuals who suffer from OCD display very unusual behaviour, things that may seem of little concern to others, such as shaking a stranger’s hand or tiny dirty spot on a table may become massive issues for an OCD sufferer, compelling them to spend inordinate amounts of time obsessing over it. Many sufferers are aware of their obsessive behaviour but they can’t really control it – therefore, it is important to get educated in order to cope with OCD.
“Often individuals portraying symptoms of OCD experience severe levels of Anxiety. They begin to spend hours a day on their intrusive thoughts and rituals, and their overall functioning, whether with regards to relationships, studies, and or work, begins to decline” says Psychologist Shai Friedland.
Facebook Friday FREE Q&A will help educate individuals with OCD and those living with loved who suffer from OCD about treating the disorder. Not only will they learn how to treat it but also get important tools to help them notice the signs and symptoms, how to look after loved ones, where to get help and some of the different types of obsessions.
Clues to OCD that you can look for :
- Persistent absence from work or school
- Repetitive behaviour
- Constant questioning and need for reassurance
- Simple tasks consistently taking longer than usual
- Perpetual lateness
- Increased concern over little things and details
- Extreme emotional reactions to small things
- Inability to sleep properly
- Staying up late to get things done
- Change in eating habits
- Avoidance of certain things or situations
- Daily life becomes a struggle
