Mental Health Matters is a talk show dedicated to discussing various Mental Health issues such as Anxiety, Depression, Exam Stress, Bullying, Substance Abuse, Trauma, Bipolar, Suicide Prevention, Self-Mutilation and so much more. The show targets youth, young adults and parents to discuss issues that many experience on a daily basis. ED TV’s current viewership (as of August 2014) noted by DSTV is approximately 4 million people in South Africa and is broadcast in over 49 other countries across Africa. We are hoping that this interactive show will further de-stigmatise the myths around Mental Health Illnesses.
Currently, Mental Health Matters is the 2nd most popular show on ED and with all the new editions coming to the show in the second season, we are hoping be more informative, interactive and enjoyable to watch.
With 1 in 3 people who will suffer from a Mental Health Illness in their lifetime, these conversations with SADAG Guests including Mental Health Experts such as top Psychiatrists, GPs, Psychologists, Social Workers, as well as everyday people sharing their own personal experiences, makes this show relevant to so many South Africans. It is important to share these topics, learn how to identify someone who is battling depression, or struggling with an addiction or even how to help someone who has become a victim of abuse or bullying. You will learn ways of helping them get help, where to go for treatment, learn coping tips, joining support groups and resources to help them with day-to-day stressors.
Meryl Da Costa, Press Officer for SADAG says, “We are very enthusiastic to be a part of SHARE, this is a great opportunity to reach so many young people. We have a critical responsibility on our hands and because of this, each and every episode has top experts SHARE information, and helpful resources that are easily accessible to all”.
During and after the airing of ”Mental Health Matters”, SADAG’s Toll-Free Helplines 0800 20 50 26 will be displayed to ensure that all South Africans across the country, can reach out to SADAG counsellors for free telephonic counseling, help, information, self-help tips, support and referrals to resources in their area.
Join SADAG and Carly Fields every weekday at 9.55am and then again at 5.55pm for an engaging and informative show on Mental Health.
